Reflection/learnings/thought on the video clip of Guy Kawasaki: MAKE Meaning

After we had chance to witness the short video of Guy Kawasaki last week, we have learned and be knowledgeable on some tips he had talk over. His video is in titled “The Art of Start”. In fact, I found some information about this brilliant guy when I had searched and read various articles in the internet. I really amazed of what Guy Kawasaki grasp and conquer of what he had know. Now it’s my turn to introduce to you all about this proficient and expert in the field of trade and industry. Guy Kawasaki is a managing director of Garage Technology Ventures, an early-stage venture capital firm and a columnist for Entrepreneur Magazine. Previously, he was an Apple Fellow at Apple Computer, Inc. Guy is the author of nine books including Reality Check, The Art of the Start, Rules for Revolutionaries, How to Drive Your Competition Crazy, Selling the Dream, and The Macintosh Way. That’s how he breaks out and bliss of writing, speaking, and consulting. He has a BA from Stanford University and an MBA from UCLA as well as an honorary doctorate from Babson College. That’s how Guy is wonderful and incredible. According to his personal blog, he was born at Honolulu Hawaii at 1954. His family lived in Kalihi Valley. They weren’t rich, but he never felt poor-because his mother and father made sacrifices for his sister and himself. Guy Kawasaki’s mother was a housewife, and his father was, at various times, a fireman, real estate broker, state senator, and government official. In point of fact, his first worked for a fine-jewelry manufacturer called Nova Stylings; and his first real job was literally counting diamonds. He learned how to sell at that time. The jewelry business is the toughest business he ever encountered. Go back to our preeminent topic, “The Art of Start” focus on making meaning, not money. This means that in building a business, a technopreneur or an entrepreneur must consider first and think about on founding importance and value of that business to the good of people. . since we are dreaming for utilizing our own business, it is also important and necessary that we acquire the proper mindset of an entrepreneur. And this includes having the right reasons for starting a company. Part from that video he stressed out that “if you make meaning, you will probably make money. But if you set out to make money, you will probably not make meaning and you won’t make money”.
Think first on how this enterprise will help to succeed then after how this will gain money. If your vision for your company is to grow it just to flip it to a large company or to take it public and cash out, "you're doomed". Kawasaki shared in the video. Kawasaki says that great companies are built around three kinds of meaning:

1. Increase the quality of life. In this factor, it can bring changing world to have productive and in progress life for all the people. Make people more productive or their lives easier or more enjoyable. From Wikipedia, it is used to evaluate the general well-being of individuals and societies. The term is used in a wide range of contexts, including the fields of international development, healthcare, and politics. Quality of life should not be confused with the concept of standard of living, which is based primarily on income. Instead, standard indicators of the quality of life include not only wealth and employment, but also the built environment, physical and mental health, education, recreation and leisure time, and social belonging. The definition of quality of life is different for everyone. The main thing that determines quality of life is our ability to enjoy all that life has to offer. For instance, the ability to walk, talk, see and feel all contributes to our overall quality of life. A quality life is a life full of meaning and purpose. A high-quality life is also a life of freedom from tyranny. Having the ability to make choices about what you want to do with your time, your belief and what you buy shape your quality of life. People who have lived under oppressive governments are generally unhappy because their quality of life is compromised. That’s how great in increasing the quality of life. In fact, reliable site said that quality of life comprises of good characteristics such as:
• Good Health. I think if you are mentally and physically healthy you are in a good health. Good health helps a productive and happy life. F all the members of family are healthy then they can do fun and exciting things like having family bonding and more. Good health reflects from what’s inside. The attitudes of healthy person are naturally more positive and can accomplish more goals in life.

• Stability. This is a condition of being stable. In mental or psychologically firmness. This is another important factor of quality of life. When you and everybody is stable we can make better decisions about life and for the future. Children who are raised in stable homes generally thrive, and adults who strive to provide stability often fare much better in life. When we're more stable, we tend to be more responsible and have a sense of purpose. Sometimes life circumstances make it difficult to be stable, but the deciding factor is how you handle the situation. You can either make it worse or use it as a learning experience to grow.

• Happiness. Being happy makes the worlds go round. Yes! This is true. In my opinion, being happy is what people should be feel living in his own existence. To be satisfied is happy. If you are satisfy of what you have, in spite of many struggles facing. Money doesn’t count and can’t buy happiness of people. There are instances like some little girls are trained early on to seek their prince charming and live happily ever after. Just what I did when I was a kid. However, this fantasy can cause some people to grow up having unrealistic expectations. Some people who dream to achieve their goals expect much of that certain thing to happen even if possible. Happiness is a mind-set, as is unhappiness. You can always take a difficult situation and turn it into something positive. No one else can make you happy. Seeking happiness from material things or people will leave you disappointed in the end. Having the right attitude and doing things to improve your quality of life will ultimately make you happy. Thus, happiness is one of the best factors of good quality of life.

• Meaning. People should have the motivation in their life. People who have meaning in their life have a very high quality of life. You should consider the right meaning of your life meaning to stand and live the meaning. Meaning brings purpose and a reason to live. Most people achieve this need by helping to improve the lives of other people. Giving and sharing time with friends, loved ones or even strangers can bring great purpose in life. Having children and teaching them to have values and good ethics can provide a great deal of meaning. For some people, having God in their life provides them with great meaning. If you didn’t have that meaning yet, then life has many chances to build it right.

• Relationship. People should the good relationship towards other people. Especially in their family and friends. Spending time and enjoying the company of family and friends can help take care of our natural social needs. Not just towards other people but most especially we as human beings are very complex biological to the great creature – God. We nurture and inspire people with positive emotions and encouragement from each other. Spending an evening with friends having a good meal, games and a few good laughs can cause serotonin levels to increase. Serotonin is the hormone that helps us to feel happy and adds to quality of life. There is a saying that said “live life to the fullest”, but this is not necessary to live life with all the happiness in life. Just like gimmick with friends and soon. Its about living your life in God’s will. Keep it up!

2. Right a wrong. A variant on the above. Be a part of the solution, not a part of the problem. A technopreneur must be a problem solver and love to take risk. In spite of all difficulties he/she may encounter, he/she must be brave enough in facing and make plan to work on things well.

3. Prevent the end of something good. Preserve something classic or historical. Save the whales. This simple means that a technopreneur should cultivate his reasonable motivation on the success of his business.
According to a site, Guy Kawasaki love to speak to people who want to change the world. He considers himself a better speaker than a writer, and better writer than a doer. This means he loves to direct and influence people through his words. As a matter of fact, he is very comfortable with large number of audiences, and two things separate from the speakers. He says:
 I am a business person who happens to speak. I am not a “professional speaker,” a “motivational speaker,” or a “guru.” (I wish I was a professional athlete who turned to speaking, but I’m not that either.)

 I customize each speech for the audience. I need at least one face-to-face or telephonic meeting before the event to make this work. A good speech requires understanding your business.
From that video Guy Kawasaki inspired and feed us to think beyond our limits in the field of business. Considering the fact that making meaning should be in the first list to think of. In that way, making meaning makes money out of it. Being a technopreneur is never that easy to achieve. Thus learning that skills and such expertise is a process. Even though a technopreneur get failures in many times, what’s more important is to stand in your own feet and have more courage to ponder the right formulas of a technopreneur. As a matter of fact, Guy Kawasaki shared his tips. It said that, “entrepreneurship is a parallel process, not serial. Don’t expect to formulate an idea, get funding, build, get customers, get paid. It’s a repeat process and many tasks run along side each other. You have to be willing to “grind it out”. It is continuous process learning those heavy tasks. I just wonder how this proficient Guy Kawasaki brought his capacity in helping to develop the Apple. Where Apple Company has always been about building “cool stuff”. I myself still didn’t have the courage and expertise to this field; however, believing to my self is one of the key to be line up my name in with famous and most deemed people internationally. At this time, I haven’t yet the idea of what business to build if I am going to be a technopreneur someday. There is a good business ethics to ponder and push through. It comprises of trustworthiness, impartiality, openness, respectfulness, compliance and community involvement. These must not only to learn but all of these should be applying in daily life. Developing a strong base of values and ethics in your business can help you build a positive reputation and present an image of integrity. But, the principles you follow in your business can also be followed in your day-to-day life and have very positive results. Your customer is whom who bring positive response in your good company. It’s up to you on how to handle things right. Building my own future is my goal why I am sending to school and have good grades. Indeed, Guy, who is known to be humble and approachable, had no hesitation in stating that he doesn’t consider himself a visionary, but has always been willing to just “grind it out“. Two thumbs up for Mr. Kawasaki!
